In one of the many visions recounted in the 'Confession', Patrick opens a letter delivered by a mysterious man. He immediately hears the voices of the people he met during his slavery in Hibernia calling to him as one: 'Come and walk again among us.' In homage to this dream, which foreshadows his future mission as the Apostle of Ireland, this study reconstructs his elusive profile through a close reading of his writings. Separating the historical and legendary Patrick, the book offers the first survey of the saint's reception in biofiction from the 1960s to the present.
